Rosehill Cemetery | Chicago, IL
Rosehill Cemetery is known to be the resting place of many prominent figures in Illinois and veterans of all American wars, including the American Revolution. The Rosehill Cemetery Mausoleum has beautiful decorative plaster ceilings, wrapping around expansive leaded glass skylights, many of which suffered from extensive water infiltration causing salt deposits, termed efflorescence, which deteriorates the plaster. USHG provided materials and expertise for this extensive renovation.
Marion Restoration measured the moisture content of the plaster and removed all damaged areas to stable plaster. Using a lime plaster to match the original material, Marion Restoration patched these areas and carved details to recreate the standing and running trim and dentils. We also helped execute cemetery monument restoration on several features such as the Chicago Light Artillery Civil War Monument.
